Research Interest

My research entails studying the signaling pathways that are disrupted by antioxidant drugs, resulting in decreased proliferation and survival of breast cancer cells. These drugs have been developed by Dr. Kalyanaraman (Biophysics). I have found that lower concentrations of the drug are needed for decreased proliferation of breast cancer cells compared to normal breast epithelial cells. This was an exciting discovery because the drug has the potential to be a valuable chemotherapeutic drug that will diminish the proliferation of breast cancer cells without inducing harmful side effects on normal cells. I have also found that there is differential signaling when the antioxidant drugs are incubated with the breast cancer cells compared to the normal breast epithelial cells. My future studies will address how the drugs alter different signaling pathways in the breast cancer cells compared to the normal breast epithelial cells.
