Ming You, MD, PhD, joined the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in September 2010.  He is currently the principal investigator or the co-principal investigator for multiple NIH grants that are focused on genetics and chemoprevention of lung cancer.  Some ongoing projects in the You laboratory are the identification of candidate lung cancer susceptibility genes by capture-sequencing of targeted regions or genes, identification of frequent somatic mutations in lung adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas by exome sequencing, and identification of those somatic mutations predictive of clinical outcome of stage I NSCLC by SNP genotyping.

Dr. You is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Cancer Institute. He is a current member and past chair of the Chemo/Dietary Prevention Study Section (CDP) and a member of the Chemical Pathology Study Section (CPA) at the National Institutes of Health.  Dr. You also served as a member of the NCI’s Cancer Susceptibility Think Tank and Cancer Chemoprevention Think Tank and the chair of the Review Panel for Chemopreventive Agent Development Research Group (CADRG), Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute. He is an Associate Editor of Cancer Research and Cancer Prevention Research and is on the editorial board of PLoS One and Carcinogenesis.

In addition, Dr. Ming You is the Director of the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. Its stated mission is to reduce the cancer burden in Milwaukee area, Wisconsin, nationally, and internationally through research into its causes, prevention, early detection and treatment, and through integrated patient care and through education.  Under the direction of Dr. You, the MCW Cancer Center strategic plan has identified these top five cancer research programs and related disease focus as Molecular Carcinogenesis & Chemoprevention, Cancer Cell Biology, Cancer Imaging, Transplantation Biology & Immunotherapy, and Population Science & Epidemiology.

He has lectured broadly and internationally in his areas of interest and expertise. His publications have focused on work in genetics and chemoprevention of lung cancer and his bibliography includes over 170 titles. He has mentored a large number of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and has a large laboratory, including a number of research and tenure track faculty members.
