Associate Dean, Student Affairs Associate Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine holloway@mcw.edu Richard L. Holloway is Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he also serves as Associate Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Having obtained his doctorate from Syracuse University, Dr. Holloway’s research interests have been in the doctor-patient relationship, with an evolving focus on the humanities in medicine and psychology. Dr. Holloway’s broad experience and interests include his clinical work as a marriage and family therapist and research on the emotional dimensions of health and illness. His leadership in faculty development and research has included the presidency (1993-94) and board status (1989-95) for the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He is the recipient of many awards and honors for his work, and has had over 100 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He was asked to present his work on behavioral aspects of medicine to the Institute of Medicine’s initiative on behavioral medicine in medical school curricula. He is a member of the editorial boards of Families, Systems and Health and the American Family Physician. He was chief editor and contributing author for the Clinics of North America book, Behavioral Medicine in Family Practice, and has been a regular contributor of essays and personal reflections in medical and psychological journals. His interests in medical humanities led him to establish the Medical Humanities Initiative of MCW, for which he has received support from the Arnold Gold Foundation, creating a medical humanities collection in the College’s main library.
