Population Health Mission & Purpose

Purpose

The Department of Population Health has two related purposes:

  1. To provide college-wide leadership and resources in population health disciplines
  2. To support the College's growing emphasis on clinical and translational sciences through focused educational programs and research collaboration in biostatistics, bioethics, epidemiology, and related disciplines

Mission

The Department of Population Health has three major missions:

  1. Provide an academic home for a critical mass of faculty and staff in disciplines essential for population health and clinical and translational sciences
  2. Offer outstanding educational programs relevant to population health and clinical and translational sciences
  3. Conduct population health and clinical and translational science research and policy analysis, often in collaboration with other departments and centers

All three of these missions are necessary in order to recruit outstanding faculty to the Medical College of Wisconsin, to promote the professional development of faculty and to educate future investigators, academicians, and policymakers in population health and clinical and translational sciences.
