On July 1, 2006, the Medical College of Wisconsin, Health Policy Institute (HPI) was reorganized into the Department of Population Health to reflect the increased role it will take in the College’s public and community health and clinical and translational sciences efforts.
The Department of Population Health consists of the Divisions of Administration, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health and Society and the Center for the Study of Bioethics.
In August 2008, Professor Jane Morley Kotchen, MD, MPH, was selected to serve as the Interim Chair of the Department. Dr Kotchen also serves as the Director of the Division of Epidemiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and received national recognition for her research for the Women's Health Iniative Study and hypertension.
Professor John P. Klein, PhD, serves as the Director of the Division of Biostatistics, Professor Cheryl Maurana, PhD serves as the Director of the the Division of Health & Society, and Robyn S. Shapiro, JD, Ursula Von der Ruhr Professor in Bioethics, serves as the Director of the Center for the Study of Bioethics. Susan M. Ristow, MS, is the Department Administrator.
