Department of Population Health Strategic Goals

Goal: Research
a) To provide college-wide leadership and resources in population health disciplines, including bioethics, biostatistics, epidemiology, and public and community health.

b) Conduct population health and clinical and translational science research and policy analysis, often in collaboration with other departments and centers.

Goal: Education
a). Continue to offer outstanding educational programs relevant to population health and clinical and translational sciences, including medical and graduate education in biostatistics, bioethics, epidemiology and public and community health.

b). Provide an academic home for a critical mass of faculty and staff in disciplines essential for population health and clinical and translational sciences, including bioethics, biostatistics, epidemiology and public and community health.

Goal: Research Support and Services
a). Continue to offer outstanding bioethics and research ethics consultation and education services in support of MCW’s and affiliates’ research and clinical care.

b). Expand consulting support services and continuing education opportunities in bioethics, biostatistics, epidemiology, and public and community health to MCW and community clinicians to translate research discovery into quality patient care.

Goal: Community
a). To support the College’s growing emphasis on clinical and translational sciences through focused educational programs and research collaboration in biostatistics, bioethics, epidemiology and related disciplines.

b). Facilitate collaborative, inter-division community-based participatory research and educational programming, with involvement of faculty from public and community health, bioethics, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

Goal: Talent Recruitment and Retention
a) Continue to attract and support diverse and talented graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, faculty, and staff nationally and internationally.

b). Address changing educational needs and health care issues by expanding joint degree educational programs to include MD/MPH, MD/MA, and JD/MA degrees to medical students at MCW and law students at Marquette University.

Goal: Financial Vitality
a). To expand population health research initiatives specifically in cancer, public and community heath, and ethics.

b). Continue to increase financial support for population health disciplines through grants, tuition, endowments, and service contracts.
