Basic Science Departments

Biochemistry

A broad spectrum of biochemistry ranging from cell and developmental biology, structural biology, and the biological processes at the molecular level. The department is home to state of the art facilities and instruments for X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, fluorescence microscopy.

Biophysics

The Department of Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin is dedicated to quality in research, as well as graduate and postdoctoral training. The primary research focus is on magnetic resonance, both electron paramagnetic resonance and magnetic resonance imaging.

Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy

Conducting fundamental research in the areas of cell biology, developmental biology and neurobiology.

Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the Medical College of Wisconsin uses molecular genetic techniques to further research in the areas of bacterial pathogenesis, signaling and gene expression, virology, immunology, enzymology, metabolism, and cell biology. Faculty and laboratories support the education and training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Pharmacology and Toxicology

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology has research and training programs in mechanisms of cell signaling in the areas of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Neuropharmacology and Cancer Biology. Other areas include Pharmacogenetics, Molecular Toxicology and Mass Spectrometry.
