Medical College of Wisconsin Postdoctoral
Travel Award
This award is intended to support career development of postdoctoral fellows at the Medical College of Wisconsin (including the Blood Research Institute) by providing partial support for an educational activity. The following are examples of travel award applications that would receive consideration:
-
Plans for visiting a laboratory which will aid the fellow in developing an independent line of research distinctly different from the research of his/her scientific mentor.
-
Participation in a course which will allow the fellow to learn a new research technique.
-
Requests for travel funds to a specialty meeting where attendance at the meeting is crucial to the scientific development of the fellow.
-
Applications submitted by a senior postdoctoral fellow who have had little or no opportunity to present their work at scientific meetings.
These are only examples of activities which are encouraged by the MCW Postdoctoral Travel Award.
Awardees will be determined through a blinded peer review process. Ten awards will be made each year divided into 2 review cycles. Reimbursement of travel expenses up to $750 will be provided in accordance with MCW Travel Policy.
The applicant must have been at MCW for 1 year and have a current appointment as a postdoctoral fellow. An individual is eligible to receive this award only one time during his/her tenure here. Travel must occur after the travel award application deadline of March 1, 2012.
For travel to a laboratory or other venue, applicants must complete an application (Form A) including a summary of the activity to be undertaken. This should include information about why the laboratory or organization was chosen, an itinerary or agenda, goals for the visit, and how you will apply what is learned. Completed applications and summaries must be submitted electronically to cbauer@mcw.edu.
For attendance at a meeting, applicants must complete an application (Form B) and provide a copy of the abstract which is to be submitted or has been submitted already. The fellow must be the first author of an abstract at the conference and data must have been collected at MCW. The abstract should include the scientific rationale for the study, the most important findings, and a statement of conclusions drawn. Only one (1) abstract may be submitted and length must be one page or less. Completed applications and abstracts must be submitted electronically to cbauer@mcw.edu.
Applications are currently being accepted. Deadline to submit travel award application is 5pm on March 1, 2012.
