PhD program in Public and Community Health is launching in Fall 2009 as the only one of its kind in Wisconsin, and one of very few nationwide. Its goal is to educate a new generation of researchers to integrate traditional public health sciences with direct community engagement, as public health research moves increasingly toward community-based interventions.
Our Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program is well into its second decade of helping physicians attain their educational goals using a distance learning format.
The future of biomedical research is increasingly interdisciplinary in approach. Our Interdisciplinary Program in the Biomedical Sciences prepares students for research careers by encouraging creative problem-solving and the application of biomedical technology such as NMR spectroscopy, and methodologies from these five participating academic departments:
Areas of focus include the immune and respiratory systems, and corresponding disciplines which include enzymology, molecular biology and molecular physics, glycobiology, cancer biology (including effects of oxidative stress) and virology.
The faculty of the Interdisciplinary Program in Neurosciences come from eleven basic and clinical science departments. Each department leads nationally funded research programs. This program focuses on a wide specrum of research topics, including the nature of circadian rhythm, synaptic plasticity, and clinical and theoretical research into vision. Application of neurobiology and neurophysiology methodology round out our graduates for neursciences research fields of the future.
