George R. Jacobson, Ph.D.
George R. Jacobson, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has been a full-time faculty member in the department since 1978.
Dr. Jacobson moved to Milwaukee in 1972 and for 15 years was the Director of Research and Training at the former De Paul Rehabilitation Hospital. He then spent 15 years at the former Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital where he was the Chief Psychologist and Director of Psychological Services for approximately 10 years.
Dr. Jacobson was twice named one of the "Best Psychotherapists" by Milwaukee Magazine. He was the first recipient of the Annual Outstanding Researchers in Substance Abuse Award from the State of Wisconsin. He has received many public and private grants and awards and has written two books and more than 40 research and clinical articles, book chapters, and other documents. He served several years as an editor of the newsletter for the Wisconsin Psychological Association, two terms as Treasurer, and was elected a Fellow of the WPA.
In addition to his 40 years of clinical and research activities in the field of substance abuse and chemical dependency, Dr. Jacobson has special interests in hypnosis and hypnotherapy, biofeedback, eating disorders, chronic pain, and other health issues. He sees adult patients in the Department of Psychiatry at the Tosa Center.
