Thanks to Green Bay partners who made HLC site visit a success

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As you can appreciate, there are many steps and milestones that need to be accomplished in order to achieve the July 1, 2015, matriculation date for the first class of students at our MCW-Green Bay campus.

One of the milestones is securing approval of our plans from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central Region. The HLC is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The NCA is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States.

We have taken a significant step on this journey for MCW-Green Bay. Following the submission of our HLC Substantive Change Application, MCW hosted a site visit from HLC representatives on Jan. 13 and 14, 2014. Through the care and collaboration of our partners, including our Community Advisory Board (CAB), we were able to demonstrate MCW-Green Bay’s qualities and resources in a clear, thoughtful and thorough manner.

On the first day, the HLC site visit team met with MCW leaders in Milwaukee to discuss topics including admissions, assessment oversight and analysis. In addition, they toured our teaching spaces. On the second day, the HLC team met at St. Norbert College with CAB members and academic and health system partners.

One of the HLC visit team members specifically remarked, “The CAB is a very impressive and engaged group. I cannot remember ever meeting an advisory group that had that much commitment and enthusiasm.”

Approval of our Substantive Change Application is critical because it will grant MCW the ability to accept student applications for MCW-Green Bay. A decision on our application is anticipated in March.

On behalf of the Medical College of Wisconsin, I would like to thank the following partners who participated in the Jan. 14 portion of the HLC site visit. Their dedication was evident to all.
