Central Wisconsin teaching facilities taking shape

Plans are steadily progressing for development of teaching facilities at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Northcentral Technical College in Central Wisconsin.

Floor plan development for teaching and administrative space at Aspirus Wausau Hospital is nearing completion, with the design and construction timetable targeting completion of the work in spring 2015.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital will house teaching, faculty and administrative space in a new, two-story addition attached to the hospital.  Approximately 10,000 square feet of the second floor space will be dedicated for this use.

The Aspirus facilities team has selected HDR, a renowned architectural design firm in Minneapolis, as the design consultant for the project. The Aspirus space will house:

  • A large Active Learning Classroom, which can be subdivided into two smaller class spaces with the use of an operable partition. The Active Learning Classroom supports team-based education that actively engages students in the learning process.

  • Learning and Skills Classrooms, which will consist of three rooms divided by operable partitions that can be opened into one large teaching space.  Learning and Skills Classrooms house small groups of students for early clinical skills education and training.

  • Student Lounge

  • Four faculty offices

  • Conference and consultation rooms

  • Administrative offices. This will include offices for the Dean of the Central Wisconsin campus, Lisa Dodson, MD, and her staff. Until completion of construction, they will have temporary office space within the hospital.

Planning continues with Northcentral Technical College, which will house space for clinical simulation and skills training.
