Facility plans for academic components of Green Bay campus take shape

Construction on the Gehl-Mulva Science Center at St. Norbert College has steadily progressed since officials broke ground in May. The 150,000-square-foot center will house administrative, classroom and anatomy laboratory spaces for MCW’s Green Bay campus. MCW will own 6,600 square feet of dedicated space in the building, and many resources will be shared.

On Nov. 6, MCW and Green Bay campus partners will meet at Bellin College to discuss the development of a simulation and clinical skills partnership that will serve the mutual needs of Bellin College and the regional medical education campus.

Program leaders expect bids for a redesigned simulation and clinical skills laboratory space at Bellin College to be submitted by Jan. 1, 2014. Work should begin by late spring with a goal of completion in winter 2015, prior to the campus opening to students in the summer of 2015.

In addition, the sites of clinical rotations for the Green Bay campus include Bellin Health, Aurora BayCare Medical Center and Prevea Health, as well as St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Faculty members from University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Norbert College and Bellin College will teach in the program.

When completed, the new science center will serve an integral role in the education of medical students at MCW’s Green Bay campus.

Bellin College currently features a simulation and clinical skills laboratory that supports curriculum in its School of Nursing and School of Radiologic Sciences. Officials from MCW, Bellin College and other Green Bay partners will meet in November to discuss a simulation and clinical skills partnership.
