Oct. 20 - MCW Libraries has recently added Collection One of the Colloquium Digital Library of Life Sciences. This collection from Morgan & Claypool Publishers consists of more than 50 lectures in five series: Integrated Systems Physiology, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology of Medicine, the Developing Brain, and Biotechnology.
Oct. 17 - The National Academy of Sciences announced today in Washington, D.C. that Dr. Stephen Hargarten, Chairman and Professor of Emergency Medicine, is one of 65 physicians or scientists from the United States who have been elected to the National Academy’s Institute of Medicine (IOM). Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. Five other physicians and scientists from outside the United States were elected as foreign associates.
Oct. 14 - Earnestine Willis, MD, MPH, Kellner Professor in Pediatrics and Director of the College’s Center for the Advancement of Underserved Children, and Mikel Holt, Associate Publisher and co-founder of the Milwaukee Community Journal and President of Malik Communications, were chosen to be the first two recipients of the President’s Diversity Award. Holt and Dr. Willis will be honored at a special reception on Nov. 16. The reception runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Center.
Sept. 21 - Daniel J. DeBehnke, MD, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Associate Chief Medical Officer of the Medical College Physicians Group, has been named the Chief Clinical Integration Officer at The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).
Aug. 11 - The Medical College of Wisconsin has received a five-year, $13 million grant to establish a National Center for Systems Biology.
Aug. 05 - Stanley Lo, PhD, Associate Professor of Pathology, was elected President-Elect of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry: the Academy of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.
Aug. 04 - Colleen A. F. Lawton, MD, Professor of Radiation Oncology at The Medical College of Wisconsin, was chosen by her peers as the president-elect of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
Aug. 01 - On Aug. 1, the "Milwaukee Journal Sentinel" published an interview with John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, President and CEO. Titled, "Raymond settles into role leading Medical College", it highlights Dr. Raymond’s views on some of the challenges facing MCW and his approach to leadership.
July 22 - Medical College of Wisconsin medical students will compete against dental students from the Marquette University School of Dentistry at the fifth annual Thriller at Miller, on Saturday, July 30. The game will be played at Helfaer Field, adjacent to Miller Park.
July 06 -Jose Franco, MD, has been selected as the New Curriculum Director. This new position will report to the Dean of the Medical School and was developed by the Curriculum Development Nominating Committee to facilitate and implement a new medical school curriculum model for the Medical College of Wisconsin.
June 14 - I am pleased to announce that Glenn Allen Bolton, Jr., currently Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine (UAB), has accepted our offer to succeed Douglas R. Campbell as the Medical College of Wisconsin’s new Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, effective Sept. 1, 2011. His appointment is pending MCW Board of Trustees approval on June 24, 2011.

Joseph E. Kerschner, MD, Interim Dean and Executive Vice President and Professor of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences, has been elected President-Elect of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO). Upon completion of his one-year term, which began May 1, he will become President of the society from May 2012 through May 2013.
The Medical College of Wisconsin and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center are collaborating to improve the lives of those with spinal cord injuries.
Vehicle crashes, unfortunately, are a fact of life. Faculty and staff in the Vehicle Crashworthiness Laboratory and the Neurosurgery Research Facility at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center use their biomedical engineering expertise to minimize the effect crashes have on the people involved.
The week of May 2-6 is VA Research Week, and the Medical College of Wisconsin will be observing the event with a series of articles and a variety of displays that highlight the research collaboration between the College and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.

Cheryl A. Maurana, PhD, has been named Senior Associate Dean for Institutional and Community Engagement and Director of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin (AHW) Program for The Medical College of Wisconsin. In this new role, Dr. Maurana will lead the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin program, provide leadership for the development of institutional initiatives, and advance priorities reflecting the community engagement mission of the College.
