Dr. Ed Duthie to participate in panel discussion at MCW on the pending primary care physician shortage
Feb. 13, 2014 College News - Ed Duthie, MD, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Geriatrics and Gerontology, will participate in a Thursday, Feb. 20 4th Street Forum panel discussion titled, Impending Tsunami: As We Age, Who Will Care For Us? The panel will debate: As the Boomers sign up for Medicare and the Affordable Care Act becomes reality, the demand for primary care physicians will far exceed the number trained for the specialty. In fact, by 2020, it is predicted that the U.S. will lack 45,000 primary care physicians. What do we do to prepare for this shortage?
The panel discussion, hosted by the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities, will take place from 12-1 p.m. in the MCW Alumni Center and be taped for playback on TV. Everyone is invited to attend the live taping.
The panel discussion will be broadcast on Milwaukee Public Television channel 36.1 on Friday, Feb. 21, at 9 p.m., and on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 9 a.m.
