June 27, 2012 College News - Elena J. Holak, MD, PharmD, Professor of Anesthesiology, served as Program Chair for the national meeting of the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA), held in June at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.
The meeting’s theme, “Doing More with Less: Teaching Quality and Safety in the Real World,” was addressed by several nationally known speakers and members of the MCW Department of Anesthesiology. Also, Deborah Simpson, PhD, Elsa B. and Roger D. Cohen, M.D.s, Professor in Medical Education and Associate Dean for Educational Services, spoke on “Bridging Learning Research to Teaching in Anesthesia.”
The Association of American Medical Colleges-sponsored MERC workshops (Medical Education Research Certificate Program) were presented for the first time at a SEA meeting. Participants were presented with a certificate upon completion of the six-workshop series. Attendance at the Milwaukee SEA meeting was six participants shy of the attendance record set at the 2010 meeting in Miami.
