Oct. 10, 2012 College News - Erwin Hirsch, MD, who served on the MCW faculty in various capacities from 1970 to 1999, including 11 years as Associate Dean for Continuing Education, died Oct. 3. He was 92 years old.
Dr. Hirsch was an expert in blood diseases and developed a better way to limit the breaking up of blood platelets during transfusions.
He earned his undergraduate degree and medical degree from Harvard University after emigrating from Vienna, Austria, where he was born.
Dr. Hirsch is survived by Emily Hirsch, his wife of 64 years, his daughters Nancy and Carolyn, and five grandchildren.
