July 31, 2012 College News - Joel H. Blumin, MD, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences and Chief of Laryngology, has been elected a Fellow of the American Laryngological Association (ALA). Membership in the ALA is an honor as members are recognized by their peers as specialists in the management of diseases of the upper aerodigestive tract. This includes diseases or dysfunction related to voice production, swallowing and breathing. Membership is by invitation.
Dr. Blumin joined the MCW faculty in 2005. He received his MD from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City in 1993. He completed a residency in head and neck surgery as well as a fellowship in laryngology, voice disorders and bronchoesophagology at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center.
The ALA is a scholarly organization of physicians and scientists who have made significant contributions to the care of patients with disorders of the larynx and upper aerodigestive tract. The ALA recognizes the accomplishments of these individuals through membership, seeks to encourage research in laryngology and elevate the standards of the fundamental teaching of laryngology in medical schools and postgraduate medical education.
