Aug. 01, 2012 College News - Nikki Johnston, PhD, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences, has been elected Vice Chair of the Otolaryngology Committee of the World Organization for Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus. Her appointment runs through calendar year 2012.
The World Organization for Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus brings together specialists from all disciplines involved to develop research that improves care for patients suffering from a disease of the esophagus. The organization has 14,000 members from 85 countries.
Dr. Johnston received her PhD in molecular and cellular pathology from the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom, where she also received her BS in anatomical sciences. Her research interests include extraesophageal reflux. Her long-term goal is to develop new therapeutics for patients with persistent acid reflux symptoms despite acid suppressive therapy.
