Dr. Prakash Laud appointed Acting Director of the Division of Biostatistics

Sept. 16, 2013 College News - Dr. Purushottam “Prakash” Laud, PhD, has accepted my offer to serve as the Acting Director of the Division of Biostatistics in the MCW Institute for Health and Society.
Dr. Laud succeeds Dr. John Klein, who passed away in July, as Acting Director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource in the Cancer Center and Acting Director of the Biostatistics Key Function in the Clinical Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin. Professors Mei-Jie Zhang, PhD, and Brent Logan, PhD, will serve Biostatistics leadership roles in the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research.
Dr. Laud is Professor of Biostatistics in the Institute and the Center for Patient Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR). He earned his PhD at the University of Missouri. Dr. Laud was faculty and Acting Director of Statistics at Northern Illinois University. In 1994, he joined MCW as an Associate Professor. In 2003, Prakash was promoted to Professor.
Dr. Laud recently served as PI of a three-year NIH grant to design Bayesian nonparametric methods for comparative effectiveness research. He is currently funded in collaborative research with Drs. Nattinger and Neuner in PCOR and the MCW Cancer Center, with Dr. Cowley in Cardiovascular Physiology, and Dr. Rhee in Otorhinolaryngology. Prakash has also collaborated in major grant-funded research with others in PCOR and ENT, and with the Injury Research Center, Bioengineering, Neurosurgery, and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Laud has published 81 articles and 11 book chapters. He has presented at 19 international and 17 national conferences.
Prakash chaired the MCW Graduate School Curriculum and Program Committee. He currently is primary advisor for three junior faculty in Biostatistics, and has taught and mentored many graduate and medical students.
