Dr. Shailendra Patel elected President of the American Diabetes Association state chapter
March 28, 2013 College News - Shailendra Patel, MD, Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology, Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition) and Staff Attending at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Medical Center, has been elected President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He will serve a one-year term.
As chapter President, Dr. Patel will provide leadership and direction to the chapter board to support annual American Diabetes Association goals and objectives in achieving the 2012-2015 strategic plan and annual organizational objectives.
“This is a great honor for me, but also a recognition of the work the Medical College of Wisconsin does and its active involvement in our community,” said Dr. Patel. The College, together with our partners, Froedtert Health and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, provides leadership in care for people with diabetes, ranging from children as young as 1 year old to the elderly, provides training in diabetes and provides continuing medical education.
Dr. Patel initiated the annual Diabetes Symposium of Wisconsin, which is now in its sixth year and will be held at the Italian Center on May 16-17.
The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to Stop Diabetes and its deadly consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, its mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
