Aug. 02, 2012 College News - In October 2011, Stephen Hargarten, MD, MPH, Chairman and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Associate Dean for Global Health, was one of 65 physicians and scientists from the United States elected to the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine (IOM). Members make a commitment to volunteer their service on IOM committees, boards, and other activities.
Recently, Dr. Hargarten was selected to join the Board on Global Health (BGH) and attended the BGH first biannual meeting in Washington D.C. on July 19.
The BGH carries out activities and studies aimed at advancing the health of populations worldwide. The Board’s efforts concern international health policy as well as the health concerns of developing countries. It focuses largely on public health programs for prevention and control of both disease and disability. In recent years, BGH committees have considered and analyzed the role of the United States in global health.
