Governor Scott Walker invites MCW to attend biennial budget bill signing

Gov. Scott Walker speaks June 30 during the State of Wisconsin biennial budget bill signing ceremony

July 02, 2013 College News - Governor Scott Walker signed the $70 billion biennial budget bill into law on Sunday, June 30, and graciously invited the Medical College of Wisconsin to attend the bill signing.  The Medical College of Wisconsin is deeply appreciative of the significant investments Governor Walker and the Legislature are dedicating toward medical education & training over the next two years.

The budget includes nearly $7.4 million for MCW to move forward with its proposed Community Medical Education Program, which will allow us to create two new campuses in the Green Bay & Central Wisconsin regions.  When fully operational, each campus will matriculate 25 new students per year.

In addition to this investment, the State of Wisconsin will also help MCW to significantly expand our Family Medicine Residency Training Program by an additional $2.26 million over the next two years.  These funds will allow us to create 12 new residency positions within our three existing locations in southeast Wisconsin.  The funds will also help us to begin developing a new family medicine residency program in the northeast Wisconsin - where none currently exists.

This is a truly exciting time during MCW's history, as we seek to transform the future of care in Wisconsin through an expansion of medical education and training in physician shortage areas of the state.

The Medical College of Wisconsin was proud to have the following students, residents and representatives in attendance at the bill signing:
