Honor our medical librarians during National Medical Librarians Month
MCW Libraries. Link. Learn. Lead
Oct. 02, 2013 College News - National Medical Librarians Month is celebrated each year during the month of October. We honor the contributions of library staff who support the MCW community by empowering MCW’s missions in the discovery of knowledge to improve health and advance science. It is a great time for the MCW community to say “thanks” to MCW’s library staff who work at the Todd Wehr Library and its satellite locations at Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
MCW Librarians serve in a variety of roles to the support of the mission of the Medical College of Wisconsin and its affiliates. Clinical Medical Librarians attend rounds and clinical meetings at Froedtert and Children’s Hospital, providing information for patient care and teaching. Reference Librarians provide literature searches, database instruction and support for faculty, students, staff, and the community.
The MCW Library staff provide over 10,000 interlibrary loans annually as well as provide durable links to electronic books and journals. Library staff also manage and support the College’s online learning management system (LMS) as well as the new secure testing platform, Exam Soft. The library provides support and assistance to students using their personal laptops and iPads. In addition, librarians are key partners in the MCW web team supporting both InfoScope and the public web site. Librarians develop systems to evaluate, acquire, organize and disseminate the best health science information and link the MCW community to high quality information resources.
Our library staff manages a collection of 10,084 electronic journals, 6,094 electronic books, and 93 databases.
