Lane closures around campus during the week of Sept. 23

Sept. 20, 2013 College News - Below is a list of lane closures around campus the week of Sept. 23, 2013. All road work is subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Additional information about the Zoo interchange project and its impact on MCW and the campus can be found on the College’s Zoo interchange Web page.

Milwaukee Regional Medical Center remains accessible from all directions the week of Sept. 23.

Campus traffic alert:  Due to the construction of Froedtert’s new Center for Advanced Care building, a portion of Doyne Avenue has become a one-lane roadway. Traffic will be able to travel between 92nd and 87th but will be controlled by new traffic signals. Please pay close attention to the new signals and be sure to only travel when a green light is displayed.

NOTE: On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Avenue/87th Street intersection will see enhanced pedestrian and turn lane markings as part of WisDOT’s traffic mitigation project.  New “smart signals” that sense traffic patterns will also be installed.

Research Park: On Friday during the day, the Hwy 100 southbound left turn lane onto Research Drive will be closed for paving operations.

Watertown Plank Road access

  • Watertown Plank Road will become increasingly congested over the next few weeks as more utility companies make their necessary alternations to our service lines. Throughout the day, only one lane of traffic may be available in both directions. Delays are expected to occur and backups on the US45 off ramps have already been observed.
    • Recommended route:  Wisconsin Avenue on the south side of campus offers construction-free access from US45.
  • NOTE: WisDOT will be installing highway signage directing traffic to use Wisconsin Avenue as the preferred access.

From the North:

  • The North Avenue entrance ramp onto US45 south will close overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, US45 will have overnight lane closures between Mayfair Road and Swan Boulevard for bridge work.
  • The Swan Boulevard bridge has been demolished and southbound lanes are detoured at Underwood Parkway.
    • DETOUR: The southbound lanes of Swan Boulevard will be detoured at Underwood Parkway.

From the South:

  • During the day on Monday and Tuesday, there will be a full closure of the I-94 westbound exit ramp to 68th Street for Milwaukee County Maintenance storm sewer work.
  • As part of the Swan Boulevard bridge project, the Zoo Interchange west-to-north system ramp will close overnight Monday – Wednesday.

From the East:

  • Traffic Alert: Beginning Tuesday through the end of October, Harwood Avenue between Glenview Avenue and Dewey Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction due to city of Wauwatosa water main work.  Delays are anticipated.  Please consider an alternative route if traveling through downtown Wauwatosa.

From the West:

  • By Monday, Hwy 100, along with the driveways to area businesses, will be fully paved.  By the end of October, Hwy 100 will be open in its final configuration with travel lanes on the proper side of the road.
  • Beginning Friday evening and through the weekend, Potter Road at Hwy 100 will be closed in both directions for paving operations.

A Look-Ahead:

  • Mid-October – The new Discovery Parkway access between Watertown Plank Road and Swan Boulevard will open, serving as a detour for the upcoming Watertown Plank Road/US45 exchange closure.
  • Late October – The northbound lanes of Swan Boulevard from Watertown Plank Road will close.
  • Late October – July 2014: Ronald McDonald House pedestrian bridge project begins.
  • November 1st – Watertown Plank Road Park & Ride Lot closes; Burleigh Street & US45 lot opens
