Stephen Duncan, PhD, (Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy) provides expert comment in The Scientist on a research study reported in Nature that researchers at University of California San Francisco have adapted a reprogramming technique that speeds the process of converting skin cells to liver cells. Dr. Duncan notes that work is still needed to make sure the new liver cells are identical to adult liver cells.
