Dr. Pfeifer Comments on Study about Post-Surgery Heart Risks Posed by Aspirin

Dr. Kurt Pfeifer (Medicine – General Internal) provides expert comment in a Health Day article also published in U.S. News & World Report on a New England Journal of Medicine study that found that aspirin may not protect the heart after non-cardiac surgeries, and also may significantly increase the risk of major bleeding.

MCW to Provide Advanced Emergency Medicine Training to Belize Hospital Physicians, Nurses

July 30 - MCW’s Department of Emergency Medicine has entered into a relationship with the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize and the Belize Ministry of Health in which MCW will provide advanced training in emergency medicine to the hospital’s doctors and nurses. Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has the largest and busiest emergency department in Belize. The Guardian

New Marquette President Wants to Build Milwaukee’s Research Infrastructure

July 30 - In an interview with BizTimes, Marquette University’s new President Michael Lovell, PhD, said he wants to build Marquette’s research that generates intellectual property. He said he wants to help create a research infrastructure in Milwaukee that engages MCW, Children’s Hospital, MSOE, and UWM. Biz Times
