MCW to confer advanced degrees to 279 students at commencement ceremony

MCW’s Medical School and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences will confer advance degrees upon 279 students at Commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 16, at the Milwaukee Theatre.  Honorary degrees will be awarded to: Mary-Claire King, the American Cancer Society Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle; William Petasnick, retired CEO of Froedtert Health; and Timothy Size, Executive Director of the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative.  Dr. Kennedy will deliver the Commencement address.

MCW physicians celebrate patient’s nuptials

Sept. 02 - A rare malignant brain tumor didn’t get in the way of a local couple’s wedding plans… and their care team celebrated with them. That team includes Jennifer Connelly, assistant professor of neuro-oncology; Malika Siker, MD, assistant professor of radiation oncology; and Wade Mueller, MD, professor of neurosurgery. Dr. Campbell Named as MCW’s First Eminent Scholar

Sept. 02 - William B. Campbell, PhD has been named as MCW’s first Eminent Scholar. The Eminent Scholar program recognizes and rewards excellence in academic and scholarly achievement that ordinarily would be funded from an endowed chair. MCW names one Eminent Scholar every year, and the term is five years. Wauwatosa Now

Stem cell patent to benefit MCW research

Aug. 29 - Cellular Dynamics International Inc., a Madison-based biotechnology company, was granted a patent for its stem cell production automation process. Ulrich Broeckel, MD, professor of pediatrics (genetics) and an investigator at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Research Institute, discussed the importance of this patent and how it will help research at MCW.
