Patient changed his life to save his  heart

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel interviewed a man who received a ventricular assist device, or VAD, to pump blood through his body while he awaits a heart transplant. Robert Love, MD, professor of surgery and section chief of adult cardiac surgery, performed the surgery. Claudius Mahr, DO, assistant professor of cardiology and medical director of the heart failure program, is the patient’s cardiologist.

Stem cell patent to benefit MCW research

Aug. 29 - Cellular Dynamics International Inc., a Madison-based biotechnology company, was granted a patent for its stem cell production automation process. Ulrich Broeckel, MD, professor of pediatrics (genetics) and an investigator at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Research Institute, discussed the importance of this patent and how it will help research at MCW.
