Dr. John Raymond speaks on Strength Through Collaboration in Inauguration address

Oct. 22, 2010 College News - Inauguration ceremonies were held for John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, on Thursday, Oct. 21.

The event was held in a tent outside the Health Research Center (HRC), and more than 500 people were in attendance, including faculty, staff, alumni, elected officials, community leaders, donors, and friends of the Medical College.

Dr. Raymond, the Medical College’s sixth President and CEO, assumed his new position on July 1.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Edward J. Zore, Chairman of the The Medical College of Wisconsin Board of Trustees. A musical prelude was provided by Quattro Horns, and the MCW a cappella Choir sang the National Anthem.

In his Inaugural address, Strength Through Collaboration, Dr. Raymond talked about the history of The Medical College of Wisconsin, the challenges it faces, and the role collaboration will play in meeting those challenges.

“Collaboration is essential now more than ever due to the enormous challenges and opportunities before us,” Dr. Raymond said. “I am confident we can meet the challenges facing us quite effectively. My confidence is based on meetings with literally hundreds of faculty, staff, students and friends of the College. I have been impressed and gratified by the remarkable level of support we receive from our friends and collaborators, and by the dedication and talents of our students, staff and faculty."

“In order to move successfully into the future, we need to focus on developing our people, programs and partnerships,” Dr. Raymond added. “Collaborations will help us to build the strength to cope with the complexities of the health care terrain.”
