Moving Forward: Institutional Budget Committee Formed

Jan. 24, 2011 College News - Dr. John R. Raymond, Sr., President and CEO, announced today that he has established an Institutional Budget Committee intended to engage broader faculty and departmental representation in the preparation of the College’s budget, and ensure a meaningful and transparent budgetary decision making process throughout the year. The Institutional Budget Committee is charged with the following:

• Advise the President and CEO on an annual budget that will be recommended for approval by the Board of Trustees
• Represent a College-wide perspective throughout the budget process
• Balance fiscal responsibility with mission and programmatic initiatives
• Develop criteria and methodologies for the allocation of College resources in a manner that is visible and understandable
• Evaluate the impact of fiscal management policies on the success of MCW missions
• Recommend adjustments to the budget process
• Respect current central and departmental time constraints for this budget cycle.

Members appointed by Dr. Raymond to the Institutional Budget Committee are:

• David Gutterman, MD –Northwestern Mutual Professor of Cardiology, Senior Associate Dean for Research
• Joseph E. Kerschner, MD - Interim Dean and Executive Vice President
• Judy Kersten, MD – Professor of Anesthesiology, Faculty Council Senior Vice President
• Thomas Malin – Pediatrics Department Administrator
• Karen Marcdante, MD – Senior Associate Dean for Education
• Cheryl Maurana, PhD - Senior Associate Dean for Public and Community Health, Director and Professor of the Institute of Health and Society
• Ravi Misra, PhD - Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
• Jon Pryor, MD – CEO, Medical College Physicians, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs
• Pat Radoszewski - COO, Children’s Specialty Group
• Paula Traktman, PhD – Chairman and the Walter Schroeder Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Senior Associate Dean for Research Development
• William See, MD – Chairman & Professor of Urology
• Lloyd Withers – Executive Director, Internal Consulting Group
• Ming You, MD, PhD – Joseph F. Heil, Jr. Professor of Oncogenesis, Senior Associate Dean for Cancer Research, Education and Clinical Care

The members on this committee will represent an institutional perspective on the budget process, and the broad diversity of the programs and missions of the College. The Institutional Budget Committee has started its work, and will continue to meet throughout the year to assess budgetary issues and policy.
