Kern Visiting Professor Lecture on May 23 to feature proteomics research

May 22 - On Wednesday, May 23, the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center and the Wisconsin Center of Excellence in Genomics Science (CEGS) will host Jarrod Marto, PhD, from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, as this year’s Kern Visiting Professor. Dr. Marto is the Director of the Blais Proteomics Center and Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard University. His seminar, Quantitative Proteomics Analysis of Aberrant Molecular Events in Leukemia, will be held at 9 a.m. in the Cardiovascular Center Conference Room (H4950). A reception will follow.

Medical College researcher to study metabolic problems associated with Type 2 Diabetes

May 22 - The Medical College of Wisconsin received a five-year, $2.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The project will investigate how type 2 diabetes (T2D) changes the body’s metabolic processes.

May 14 - Alexander L. Okun, MD, has been appointed Associate Professor of Pediatrics (special needs) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He sees patients at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Okun is board certified in general pediatrics, developmental-behavioral pediatrics and hospice and palliative medicine. His clinical interests include providing team-based multidisciplinary care for children with complex chronic conditions.

The Milwaukee Institute will spend $1 million to add two petabytes of computer storage capacity, which will be housed at Midwest Fiber Networks in Milwaukee’s Fifth Ward.
