Children's Hospital of Wisconsin ranked No. 4 in the nation by "Parents" magazine

Feb 04 - Parents magazine today revealed the exclusive findings from its 10 Best Children’s Hospitals survey, ranking Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin No. 4 in the nation. In addition, six specialty programs were ranked in the top 10, including preemie and newborn care No. 1, emergency care No. 3, orthopedic care No. 6, heart care No. 7, pulmonary care No. 8 and cancer care No. 9.

Telemedicine expands access to care

Gaining access to appropriate medical care can be difficult for patients limited by geography, disability or specialist availability. Alumni are engaging telemedicine in a number of creative ways to serve patients in the U.S. and internationally through distance technologies that allow for video conferencing, remote exams, diagnostics and follow-up care.

Dr. Ileen Gilbert honored by state chapter of American College of Physicians

Sept. 25 - Ileen Gilbert, MD, Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine), recently received the Addis Costello Award from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

Pulmonologist serves alumni well

Impressive are the bodies of work of this year’s alumni award recipients. Dr. Jane Neumann received the Distinguished Service Award for her years of service to the Alumni Association.

State medical society president is alumnus

Medical College of Wisconsin alumnus Dr. George M. Lange has been elected President of the Wisconsin Medical Society. Other alumni, faculty and students were also chosen for leadership positions in the Society.

The 99th annual commencement took place on May 18 at the Milwaukee Theatre, at which the Medical College of Wisconsin and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences awarded 202 MD, 38 PhD, 27 MS, 4 MA, and 18 Master of Public Health degrees, as well as bestowed numerous honors.

Acute care surgery symposium planned for April 12

Apr 05 - The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery is hosting the Acute Care Surgery: Trauma, Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery Symposium on Friday, April 12, in the MCW Kerrigan Auditorium. The event targets medical professionals who are involved with the practice of emergency general surgery, surgical critical care and trauma care.

Dr. John Weigelt to participate in Kidney Foundation’s ballroom dance fundraiser on Jan. 26

Jan 18 - John A. Weigelt, MD, Milton & Lidy Lunda/Charles Aprahamian Professor of Trauma, Professor of Surgery, and Chief of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery, will be in the spotlight on Saturday, Jan. 26, participating in a National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin (NKFW) ballroom dance competition to pay tribute to the second chances that are made possible through the miracle of transplantation and the gift of organ donation. The event has been organized by the NKFW to promote awareness of Wisconsin’s new online donor registry (www.YesIWillWisconsin.com).

Froedtert Hospital Plans Expansion to Address Growth

Sept 14 - Facing significant capacity constraints in surgical, outpatient and inpatient care areas, Froedtert Hospital will move forward with plans to construct a new building and renovate existing space on its academic medical center campus in Wauwatosa.

Pediatric critical care conference scheduled for Sept. 13-14

Aug. 10 - The 2012 Pediatric Critical Care Conference, TYKES: Treating Your Kids Emergent Situations Focusing on Pediatric Trauma, will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, and Friday, Sept. 14, in the Health Resource Center Auditorium.
