Radiation risks from whole-body airport scanners

May 01 - There has been considerable public concern expressed about the safety of whole-body scanners used at United States airports to screen travelers. John Moulder, PhD, Professor of Radiation Oncology and Director of Radiation Biology, analyzed the available data and believes that while the machines most likely post a negligible radiation risk, concerns remain because of a lack of transparency and information regarding the scanners.

Dean embraces role at alma mater

Prostate cancer patients sought for study

Feb. 13 - The Medical College of Wisconsin/Froedtert Hospital has recently opened RTOG 0938, a clinical trial for prostate cancer patients with localized disease. The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) is a clinical cooperative group funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) since 1968 to increase survival and improve quality of life of patients with cancer. Dr. Colleen Lawton, Professor of Radiation Oncology, is the RTOG Co-Chair of the study.

Rad Onc Chair named honorary alumnus

For his exemplary work as a physician and his commitment to education, J. Frank Wilson, MD, was named an Honorary Alumnus of The Medical College of Wisconsin this year. Dr. Wilson is Chairman and the Bernard & Miriam Peck Family Professor in Radiation Oncology at the Medical College.

June 28 - Dr. J. Frank Wilson, Chairman and Bernard & Miriam Peck Family Professor of Radiation Oncology, recently received the Heritage and Hope Award from Froedtert Hospital. The award was presented during The Heritage and Hope Celebration held May 14 and sponsored by the Froedtert Hospital Foundation.
