Radiation Oncology Resident Application Process

It is the goal of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin to produce quality radiation oncologists who pursue careers in either academic medicine or private practice.  In order to accomplish this, we feel it is necessary to choose high quality residents from the pool of applicants each year.  Future residents are selected based on academic achievements, personal qualities, and the faculty assessment of their potential to excel in the residency program.

Applications are accepted exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Services, otherwise known as ERAS.  Applications received any other way will not be considered.

Applications are accepted starting September 1 of each year (two years before anticipated start date).  Application deadline is November 1 each year.  Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Information needed to complete the ERAS application

  • Three letters of recommendation from the faculty of your choice
  • Letter from your Dean
  • Personal statement
  • Medical school transcript
  • USMLE Board scores

The Program Director personally reviews all correctly completed applications reviewing medical school transcripts, board scores, personal statement, letters of recommendation, research, and publications.  35-40 applicants are then chosen for the interview process. Final selection of the resident(s) is done by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in March of the academic year.

Interview Process

Prospective candidates are contacted via e-mail to schedule a day to come to our facility for interviews with faculty and residents.  Generally, four interview dates are selected in December and January.  Interview slots for specific days are on a first reply, first choice basis.
