Research Application Process Flowchart

The flowchart below provides a quick guide to the Radiation Safety Committee research application process:

(If this flowchart doesn't fit your needs, please contact the RSO.)

Non-Clinical Research

Research use involves radiation produced by machines (x-ray, CT, linear accelerator) or radioactive material (isotopes, nuclear medicine, sealed sources).

Radioactive Material (Isotopes, Radionuclides, Irradiators)

Unsealed Radioactive Material (liquid, gas or solid)

Is research being done under a current Authorized User?

YES - (choose from below)

NO - (choose from below)

Radiation Machines (X-Ray, X-Ray Diffraction, CT, Orthovoltage)

New Facility - Application for Analytical X-Ray

Existing Facility - Submit staff training information, contact RSO

Clinical Research

Is radioactive material/radiation therapy machine use a routine diagnostic/therapeutic modality (approved by NRC 10 CFR 35 or Agreement State regulation)?

YES - Is radiation use supervised by an Authorized User approved for the appropriate type?

NO - Does protocol have an assigned IND or IDE?
