Do you have a computer imaging program?
Yes, digital photographs are taken at the initial consultation. Prior to surgery, a second appointment is made to review these photos and discuss potential postoperative changes. The purpose of this session is to insure expectations are understood, surgical limitations are discussed, and a clear understanding is established between the patient and Dr. Rhee.

How much pain is involved with surgery?
- Pain thresholds vary by patient and procedure. Most cosmetic surgeries have very little pain associated with them. Following surgery, pain medications will be provided to manage any pain that may occur. Swelling and bruising are common but will resolve with time.
-
What is the recuperation time following surgery?
Recuperation time varies by patient and procedure. It may be as little as three or four days, as in the case of eyelid surgery, or it may be two weeks, as in the case of a facelift. With most surgeries, you will be up and moving around by the second day. Recovery instructions, specific to your surgery, will be given to you the day of surgery.

Is it true that rhinoplasty (nose) surgery is painful and requires breaking of nasal bones and a prolonged recovery?
The general time for recovery is one to two weeks. Most patients are feeling quite good by one week and can resume work or other daily activities. In most cases, there is no need for nasal packing or osteotomies (breaking of the nasal bones), which helps reduce the swelling, bruising, and discomfort related to surgery.

Why can't I breathe out of my nose?
There are many reasons for nasal obstruction. You may have an anatomical problem such as a deviated septum or an internal nasal valve collapse. This may have occurred due to previous nasal trauma or natural development.
Other reasons for nasal obstruction include severe allergies and polyps. These findings are apparent on physical examination and/or CT scanning and should be discussed with your doctor.

I have trouble breathing out of my nose and I don't like the appearance of my nose. Are these two issues linked?
Often times the external appearance of the nose is intimately linked with the internal anatomy. A twisted or crooked nose is often associated with a deviated septum. Both functional and cosmetic surgery can be performed at the same time. In fact, surgery to repair the internal and external deformities is often needed for optimal results.
