Dr. Jon Gould to join the Department of Surgery in August, 2011
as Associate Professor and Chief, Division of General Surgery,
Alonzo P. Walker Chair in Surgery, and
Senior Medical Director of Clinical Operations at Froedtert Hospital
On behalf of the Department of Surgery faculty and residents, and James Wallace, M.D., PhD, Chair of the Search Committee, I am pleased to announce that Jon C. Gould, M.D. has accepted the position of Chief, Division of General Surgery and Senior Medical Director of Clinical Operations at Froedtert Hospital. Dr. Gould will hold the Alonzo P. Walker Chair in Surgery; Dr. Gould will join the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Health on August 1, 2011.
Dr. Gould is currently Section Head of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison. He is also Medical Director of the Clinical Simulation Program and the Surgical Skills Training Laboratory in the Department of Surgery at UW. Dr. Gould is a Milwaukee area native, graduating from Brookfield Central High School. He completed medical school and his surgical residency at the University of Wisconsin and then went on to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Ohio State University prior to returning to Madison. Dr. Gould received the Faculty Teaching Award from the Surgical Residents in 2005 and has been actively involved in resident and medical student education during his faculty career. He recently completed a surgical education research fellowship awarded by the Association for Surgical Education. Dr. Gould is a member of the Society of University Surgeons (SUS), Central Surgical Association (CSA), American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASBMS), Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He has served on multiple committees for these organizations and is nationally known for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, surgical innovation, and emerging technologies.
Dr. Gould has authored or co-authored over sixty manuscripts and book chapters, and is currently on the editorial board of the World Journal of Gastroenterology. He is a nationally known expert in minimally invasive surgery whose expertise will greatly enhance our clinical programs and resident education. In addition, Dr. Gould will assume the position of Senior Medical Director of Clinical Operations for the Department of Surgery at Froedtert Hospital. This leadership position will focus on operational and strategic goals of both Froedtert and the Department of Surgery. He will work closely with the CEO of MCP, hospital leadership, and department chairs in the development and refinement of service line operations. Dr. Gould’s clinical, research, and administrative skills will be of tremendous benefit to the Medical College of Wisconsin community as well as the Froedtert Health System.
Please join me in welcoming Jon, his wife Beth, and their children Anna and Jack, to the Medical College of Wisconsin and Milwaukee.
