The Department of Surgery and Division of Transplant Surgery Welcomes Joohyun Kim, M.D., Ph.D.
On behalf of Johnny C. Hong, M.D., and the Division of Transplant Surgery, it is with great pleasure that we report the recruitment of Joohyun Kim, M.D., Ph.D., to the faculty of the Department of Surgery. Joohyun is a graduate of the Kyung Hee University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea. He stayed at the Kyung Hee Medical Center to complete his residency and then served as an army surgeon for three years. From there he joined the Seoul National University Division of Hepatobiliary Surgery as a Clinical Fellow in Liver Surgery and Transplantation. He was then recruited to the Kyung Hee University Medical Center as a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Organ Transplantation. He most recently completed a fellowship in solid organ transplantation at the Medical College of Virginia. His experience in Korea and at MCV included advanced training in live-donor liver transplantation.
Joo’s international academic activities include presentations at the International Liver Transplantation Society in New York, the International Congress of the Transplantation Society in Sydney, Australia, the Conference of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver in Seoul, South Korea, and the World Congress of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association in Mumbai, India. He will continue his work on the study of liver regeneration and participate with liver ischemia and reperfusion research in Dr. Hong’s laboratory here at MCW.
We warmly welcome Joo, his wife Jae Hee, and daughters Ayin (age 6) and Kay (age 4) to Wisconsin and the Department of Surgery.
