John T. Miura, M.D.  – 2013 Emerging Liver Scholar Award Recipient

Dr. John Miura, Surgical Oncology Research Resident in the Department of Surgery, was one of three surgical residents in the United States to receive the 2013 Emerging Liver Scholar Award from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Liver Foundation.  Dr. Miura’s mentor is Clark Gamblin, M.D., M.S., Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Miura received the award at the societies’ annual awards reception on November 2 in Washington, DC.  The Emerging Liver Scholar Award promotes the study of hepatology among residents who have potential for a career in academic medicine and an interest in choosing adult or pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, hepatopathology, surgery, or GI radiology with an emphasis on hepatobiliary imaging as their career focus.

John T. Miura, M.D.

“Hepatology has become a multifaceted field that requires surgeons to extend themselves far beyond the operating room.  My goal is to become a surgical oncologist with a clinical focus on hepatobiliary malignancies, and a practice that is equally dependent on and enriched by research and patient care.”

John T. Miura, M.D.
