Dr. Karen Brasel Named to Leadership Roles on Two ACS Committees
Karen J. Brasel, MD, Professor of Surgery (Trauma and Critical Care), has been named Chair of the Advanced Trauma Life Support subcommittee of the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT). She was also named a member of the COT Executive Committee.
The goal of the ACS Committee on Trauma is to improve all phases of the management of the injured patient, including pre-hospital care and transportation, hospital care, and rehabilitation. The committee also works to prevent injuries in the home, in industry, on the highway, and during participation in sports; to establish and implement institutional and systems standards for care of the injured; to provide education to improve trauma care; and to cooperate with other national organizations with similar objectives.
The Advanced Trauma Life Support subcommittee oversees the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course, which teaches a systematic, concise approach to the early care of trauma patients.
