MCW 21st Annual Research Day

On Wednesday September 14th, 2011, the Medical College of Wisconsin sponsored their 21st Annual Research Day sponsored by the Office of Research. There were 22 abstract poster presentations by fellows/residents and 29 abstract poster presentations by MCW faculty. Four prizes were awarded for best faculty basic research and non-basic research and best fellow/resident basic research and non-basic research. The awards were announced at Convocation. Dr. Amanda Kong and Dr. Rebecca Rentea from the Department of Surgery were awarded the best faculty non-basic research and best resident/fellow basic research awards respectively. Dr. Kong’s abstract was “The Role of Screening Mammography in Detecting Breast Cancer: Who Should Be Screened?” and Dr. Rentea’s work was entitled “Tight Junction Protein Alterations in a Neonatal Necrotizing Enterocolitis Rat Model are Altered with Intestinal Alkaline Phosphatase Administration”. Dr. Rentea works in the lab of Dr. David Gourlay in pediatric surgery.
