    Medical Student Research Day Poster Contest Winners - 2009

    Each year, medical students participate in a summer research program in which they develop posters at the end of their research to present at the annual Medical Student Research Day Poster contest. There were 114 entries in this year’s poster contest, 17 of which were from the Department of Surgery. There are only eight posters that receive awards and this year, three of the awards were given to students that completed their research in the Department of Surgery, they are as follows:

    • Preceptors: Kimberly Gandy, MD and Adrianus Domen, PhD, Cardiothoracic Surgery (Student: Elica Inagaki) Project title: Characterizing the Immune System of Mice Reconstituted with Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Myeloid Progenitor Cells.
    • Preceptor: Saqib Masroor, MD, Surgery (Student: Jordan Singleton) Project title: Genetic Differences of Brown Norway and Dahl-S Rats in Relation to Myocardial Ischemia Reperfusion.
    • Preceptor: Galen Pieper, PhD, Surgery (Student: Akash Shah) Project title: Strain of the Rejected Heart: Novel Assessment using 2-dimensional Strain Echocardiography.
