INSTITUTIONAL POLICY

Selection Of Residents And Fellows

 1.  The following are eligible for selection as residents and fellows:

   a. Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). All candidates must have passed the U.S. Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Step 1.
   b. Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). All candidates must have passed Part 1 of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examination (NBOME) or the USMLE 1.
   c. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

 2.  Selection

   a. The MCWAH Programs select from among eligible applicants on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. The MCWAH Programs shall not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, or on any other basis prohibited by applicable Federal or State law.
   b. All programs will participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) or a specialty Match Program if one is available and widely used.
