WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION - Violence Prevention, the Evidence
This briefing summarizes the main findings of the seven-part series on the evidence for interventions to prevent interpersonal and self-directed violence. The seven briefings look at increasing safe, stable and nurturing relationships between children and their parents and caregivers; developing life skills in children and adolescents; reducing availability and harmful use of alcohol; reducing access to guns, knives and pesticides; promoting gender equality; changing cultural norms that support violence; and victim identification, care and support.

Harvard Law - A CHHIRJ Research in Action Brief - Using Knowledge about Health Inequities to Spur Action

CeaseFire CeaseFire, is a Chicago-based violence prevention program that was active in numerous sites in Illinois. The program is administered by the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention (CPVP), which is located at the University of Illinois’ School of Public Health. (May 2008)

The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF), 2003 This report highlights the accomplishments, challenges and lessons learned from TCWF's Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI or Initiative) during the period 1992-2003. The TCWF's Violence Prevention Initiative was innovative in that it approached violence from a public health perspective and took into consideration the concomitant forces that increase risk in communities, such as lack of access to jobs, poor educational systems, lack of health care and affordable housing, racism and discrimination.

This report, the first comprehensive summary of the problem on a global scale, shows not only the human toll of violence – over 1.6 million lives lost each year and countless more damaged in ways that are not always apparent – but exposes the many faces of interpersonal, collective and self-directed violence, as well as the settings in which violence occurs. It shows that where violence persists, health is seriously compromised.
