The Center for Healthy Communities and Research (CHCR) has as its primary goal the development of community-academic partnerships to improve health and advance health equity in underserved rural and urban communities across Wisconsin.
As researchers, we blend and unite study design skills and research training with partnership initiatives to benefit the health of Wisconsin communities.
Through the power of partnerships, the faculty and staff of the CHCR use their research and evaluation skills to advance conditions that support better health in the lives of all community members, including seniors, children, volunteers, military veterans and their families.
The CHCR is an integral part of the Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Family and Community Medicine. Our commitments are aligned with state-wide health and health education goals.
Powerful, impactful work is represented by the people and partnerships in this report. We welcome on-going interest and engagement from those who share our commitments to community health partnerships and health equity.
In 1997, the Center for Healthy Communities was established in the Department of Family and Community Medicine to develop community-academic partnerships to improve health in underserved rural and urban communities across Wisconsin. In 2010 we merged with the department's Research Division to become the Center for Healthy Communities & Research (CHCR), to meet the need for rigorous studies about care gaps and needs, as well as health-related achievements that benefit Wisconsin communities.
The Annual Report details our commitments, highlights our faculty, staff and our achievements of the past few years. The goal of this report is to provide a summary and flavor of the work that is being done through community – campus partnerships. This report strives to capture the interest and excitement of others to join in this important, life saving work.
The CHCR is an integral part of the Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Family and Community Medicine. We are closely aligned with our affiliated, family medicine residency programs, and our state-wide MCW campuses in Milwaukee, Green Bay and Central Wisconsin. Our vision is aligned with exciting regional and state-wide health and health education goals, which can be found on the MCW, Department and residency program websites.
