Feb 9, 2016 Drs. Candice Klug & Kathryn Schultz author paper published in Science

Candice Klug, PhD, professor of biophysics, and Kathryn Schultz, PhD, research scientist, are authors on a paper published in Science on Feb. 5 on the structure of a bacterial enzyme responsible for conferring resistance to polymyxin, an antibiotic used to treat infections. The paper represents collaborative research between MCW’s department of biophysics and Columbia University.

The work discussed in the Science publication relied on an in vivo assay developed by Dr. Klug’s lab to help verify the functional role of the membrane protein and is particularly exciting because it corroborated her previously published work predicting a similar structure and a large functionally important loop in this protein.
