About the Medical College of Wisconsin Division of Infectious Diseases

Welcome to the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). We appreciate your interest in our programs, people, and initiatives. The Division offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical services related to the care of patients with infectious diseases. Our clinical activities and training programs are centrally based at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital and Clinics, as well as the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Additionally, our faculty and housestaff are affiliated with Children’s Wisconsin, St. Joseph’s Hospital (West Bend), and Vivent Health.

The Division of Infectious Diseases has four main missions: patient care, education, research and community health improvement. The primary goal of our clinical programs is to provide excellent inpatient and outpatient care and consultative services to the patients receiving care at Froedtert Hospital, the VA Medical Center and our regional partners. Our education mission includes efforts across a broad spectrum of learners, including medical and other health care professional students, residents and fellows, and continuing education for practicing physicians, as well as community education in areas of infectious diseases.

Fellowship training occurs through our ACGME accredited program, and includes both outstanding clinical training and opportunities to conduct research with Division faculty and other research mentors at MCW in the Department of Microbiology and the Center for AIDS Intervention Research (CAIR), an NIMH Center of Excellence in HIV Prevention Research. Division faculty conduct a broad array of both basic and clinical research in a variety of areas of microbiology, molecular biology, immunology and public health such as human retrovirology (HTLV), bacterial pathogenesis, host-parasite interactions, hospital epidemiology and infection control and HIV prevention strategies. Division faculty have close collaborative relationships with a variety of public health and community partners where they work collaboratively to improve the care of vulnerable population in our region, and to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on the populations we serve.
