Jan. 4, 2018 – The Medical College of Wisconsin’s license with RefWorks is coming to an end, and access will not be available after August 2018. After analysis of several sophisticated, cost-free options such as Zotero, Mendeley and EndNote Web, we have determined that these products will meet or exceed the capabilities of RefWorks. EndNote Desktop is another citation management option that is available to many at MCW at no cost through their department. Although the library will no longer be actively promoting any one option for citation managers, we will provide limited support and training for EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley.
If you are currently using RefWorks for a project that will be completed before August 2018, the library will continue to support RefWorks and assist you with troubleshooting any problems.
Before starting any new projects, we encourage you to consider moving to a new platform. During the transition away from RefWorks, the library will provide the following assistance:
- Sign up for an “Introduction to Citation Managers” class to learn more about your options. View the class schedule for times.
- Use our Library Guides to learn more about EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley. Find a comparison chart, learn more about specific features, and find out how move citations from RefWorks into another platform.
- Set up a time to meet with a librarian over the phone or in-person, or send us an email to get assistance with choosing and migrating to a new platform. We can meet one-on-one or with an entire department.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please contact the MCW Libraries at (414) 955-8302 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
