Presentation of clinical cases drawn from the in-patient or out-patient areas, covering all aspects of Nephrology. Attended by Nephrology Faculty and fellows, and held weekly from 3 - 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. Nephrology fellows prepare for this conference with Internal Medicine residents. They use authoritative texts and/or recent publications/journal articles for presentation.
Core Curriculum: four per month
Core Fellow Seminar
These are monthly or more often. Core concepts in Nephrology, linking basic physiology, anatomy, and biochemistry are discussed, with their clinical application and relevant clinical syndromes. Fellows prepare for these by advance reading. There is presentation by selected Nephrology faculty, with discussion and development of the core concepts at the time of the seminar. The list of topics is planned one year in advance. The major concepts and syndromes in Nephrology are discussed and learned.
Department of Medicine Fellow Conference
This conference is held monthly and addresses common issues in medicine, and in research, its planning, its evaluation, and its outcome. There are lectures, by speakers from within and outside The Department of Medicine. The conference is on the level of Fellows of Medical Specialties.
Interventional Radiology Conference
A monthly interdisciplinary conference with Radiology, Surgery, and Nephrology. Attended by faculty from each discipline, and by Nephrology fellows. There is case-based discussion on problems and management of dialysis access, fistulas, grafts, and catheters.
Presented by Dr. Regner. Review of recent kidney biopsies and discussion of clinical pathological correlations. Attended by all Nephrology Faculty, and Fellows. Held monthly on Tuesday afternoon from 4 - 5 p.m. Fellows prepare the clinical case reports for all biopsy conferences, thus ensuring their integral involvement and learning.
Nephrology Division Conferences
Presentations of research being performed in Nephrology by Nephrology Faculty, Fellows or visitors. Attended by all Nephrology Faculty, Fellows, Residents and students, held monthly or more often on Tuesday afternoon at 4 - 5 p.m.
Journal Club Conference
Presentations given by Nephrology Faculty and Fellows of articles in the field of Nephrology. Attended by all faculty, and fellows, and held monthly on Tuesday afternoon from 4 - 5 p.m. When journal club cannot be held on its usual schedule, an alternative date is chosen such that journal articles are formally discussed on a monthly basis.
